Carol Rama in Pistoia : one of the most original and independent figures in 20th-century Italian art

Pno terra 26 Via de' Rossi

From Saturday, 03 October 2026 until Sunday, 14 February 2027

From October 3, 2026, to February 14, 2027, Pistoia dedicates a new edition of its *In Visita* series to Carol Rama, one of the most original and independent figures in 20th-century Italian art.

Hosted at Palazzo de’ Rossi, the exhibition offers an opportunity to discover Pistoia through art and enjoy a weekend in the heart of Tuscany, exploring museums, the historic center, and some of the city’s most charming squares.

Carol Rama: The Focus of *In Visita*

Following the exhibition dedicated to Giacomo Balla, the fifth edition of *In Visita* brings seven works by Carol Rama (Turin, 1918–2015) to Pistoia.

An artist with a fiercely independent creative vision, Rama explored themes such as the body, desire, illness, and identity throughout her career, developing a personal artistic language that spanned various movements of the second half of the 20th century.

The exhibition path curated by Fondazione Pistoia Musei allows visitors to view works created between the 1950s and the mid-1970s.

The selection ranges from the abstraction associated with the *Movimento Arte Concreta* (Concrete Art Movement) to the *Bricolages* of the 1960s, through to experiments using inner tubes from the *Luogo e segni* (Place and Signs) series and works featuring thread stitched onto fabric from the early 1970s.

Seven Works to Discover Carol Rama’s Evolution

The exhibited works come from the Gallerie d'Italia – Intesa Sanpaolo collections and a private collection.

The exhibition offers a chance to delve into lesser-known aspects of the artist's body of work and trace the evolution of an artistic journey that experimented with vastly different materials and languages over the decades.

The project is curated by Monica Preti, Director General of Fondazione Pistoia Musei, and Annamaria Iacuzzi, Curator of 20th-Century Collections, in collaboration with the Carol Rama Archive. Visit the exhibition and discover Pistoia

The venue is Palazzo de' Rossi, located at Via de' Rossi 26 in the heart of Pistoia’s historic center.

This very location makes the visit an excellent starting point for a cultural weekend in the city.

After seeing the exhibition, you can walk to Piazza del Duomo, stroll through the streets of the center, reach Piazza della Sala, and spend the rest of the day exploring Pistoia’s historical and culinary heritage.

Admission to *In Visita – Carol Rama* is included in the ticket for the *Collezioni del Novecento* (20th-Century Collections).
